What social media do you use?

Last week, I asked our marketing team what social media they normally use. About half of them replied ‘what are social media?’. From the other half, most use some social media and realise that they need to go deeper. But there is also the one team member that sent in a long list of a few dozen tools she was already using.
So there really are 3 types of people:
“People can be divided into three groups: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.” - John W. Newbern (source)
Social media is still largely unknown in b2b, at least for the industries I operate in. So here a few pointers to get you started:
Brian Solis gives us definition of social media, starting from Wikipedia’s, but adding his own points.
He also has a white paper ‘the future of communications‘ where he talks about the fusion between marketing communications, PR and customer relations, stating that in the future, ‘there is no market for messages’.
And Jay Roson coins the phrase ‘the people formerly known as the audience‘, speculating that we’re beyond the point of no return, and communications will never be as before.
