Blogging pitfalls
Apr 22nd, 2007 by Hans De Keulenaer
While blogging is a quite casual and forgiving medium, still there are a few pitfalls to avoid:
- Underplanning: a new blog is created every nanosecond, but many do not make it beyond their first post, first week, first month.
- Overplanning: the best way to kill a blog project is setting up a corporate blog committee reviewing each individual post.
- Overblogging: blogs can go on Christmas breaks, you know.
- Underblogging: but probably you cannot afford a winter break.
- Too casual blogging: pay attention to spelling and style. Respect your audience. They have many alternative ways to spend their time.
- Selling on your blog: avoid commercials or other too much self-serving messages.
- Opaque blog identity: show what your blog is about and which organisation(s) support it.
- Avoid the big launch: the market is not waiting for the next blog. Build up your reputation, rather than declaring it up-front.
